Tutorial - Kitchen

Having decided on the layout of the kitchen furniture

I needed to then measure for coving

I marked these so the mitred edges would be correct. I'm still unsure whether to do this myself or get a much more experienced friend to do it. On the one hand it's nice to say I did that, but on the other I'd hate to ruin it.

Here I'm measuring the coving and the border so that I can determine where the top of the cupboards will go. 3.2cm Can't work in inches anymore.
I've marked 3.2cm around the room. I need to see things and put them in place before I can get the picture in my head for this room. Also the wallpaper is card and it would be easier to fit the units underneath it.

I placed the wall units over the lower cupboards, but I'm not happy with the one on the right.
It's too short or too long if I add in the remaining unit.

This is the smaller unit. I prefer this one. I'll need to buy another one now. Unfortunately they didn't sell these singly so it means a trip to my local dollhouse shop or online. Would prefer to have this one at the end and another with doors next to the corner unit. Will have to see what's available.

I put this wall unit over the cupboard. It works well although it's not meant to be here. I could add lighting underneath. Obviously it won't be resting on the cupboard! LOL
Love these folding stools. It's amazing what you can buy for the dollshouse.
Kirscha's kitchen is going to be very modern. Neither of us liked the 1920's kitchens. Funny thing is after I'd ordered this I actually found a pale blue set I quite liked. Oh well... we're sticking with modern. I'd quite like this kitchen for myself.

I then marked where each unit went on the floor and around the room. I made a note of these on a paper plan for skirting. I wanted to be able to make sure I marked each piece and whether or not it needed a mitred corner. Most of it is straight.

Lightting
A ceiling light that I may put nearer the front of the room. One tiny grain of wheat bulb to show you the size. These are the bulbs I'll be using to fit under the wall units and possibly the one over the peninsula unit. The biggest problem with them is the wires are quite short and I'm not sure what to do about it.

Trying out more layouts for the kitchen resulted in me returning to the original one above.
I'm considering adding a plate rack above the sink. I don't like the r/h units here.

Tried the sink on this side, but that would mean having wires from the lights trailing into the hall. Not acceptable.

So I put it back the way I had it yesterday.
All the wall units are resting on the cupboards to give me an idea of space and there's definitely space for the plate rack. Just need measurements.

This is the cooker hood. I want to put a light under it.

It's so tiny.

Trying to work out how I can use this grain light under this. As you can see there's very little wire available.

8cm isn't much. I'm considering putting a socket behind the peninsula where no one will see and running the wire out the back of the kitchen. The only other option is to drill through into the hall and have the connection there, but then it's visible. Really not acceptable.

Showing the under side of the wall unit. The grain light will obviously go in the middle with a hole drilled at the end and a channel drilled into the wall to hide the wire under the wallpaper. My brain is working overtime trying to sort it out. It's not a huge thing, but with so many tiny decisions I'm dizzy.

Notebook layout of the room and noting how many bulbs are in each room. This is important as I have only 32 to play with for the whole house. 5 in the kitchen.

Layout for the bulbs/lights in the Dining Room. Also 5 bulbs.

This is where I'm working. The house is on my desk. This is the smallest room in the house so things are very cramped, but it's the largest space I have to work in.

I'll continue to add to this as things progress.
I've had to stop as I don't have the correct drill. Need to buy a new one. Oh bother!
